Animated GIFs Collection made for a NeonMob, by FalcaoLucas.
The challenge was to create a pack of animated art trading cards for neonmob.
The collection was created with rare earths inspiration.
The shifting rocks of Eris, like the rings of Saturn or the great red spot of Jupiter, have become fixed natural wonders in the human psyche and its love of space. Ever since humans mastered interplanetary space travel, geologists have been searching for a place like Eris. Eris is the largest dwarf planet in the Solar System, and it is rich in deposits of never before seen minerals, most of which are constantly shifting and changing. These amazing minerals are sources of energy for Earth, as well as inspiration and imagination for children and adults alike.

TO START OFF, TELL US ABOUT YOUR COMPANY, FALCAOLUCAS?
FalcaoLucas is Tânia Falcão and Avelar Lucas and we’re two Portuguese designers/illustrators/motiongraphers/musicians/etc who also happen to be a married couple.
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION FOR YOUR COLLECTION, THE MINERALS OF ERIS?
The inspiration came from our two children who are still discovering the world around them. Everyday, after picking them up from the nursery, they see something completely ordinary like a leaf or a pebble, and they ask us what it is and where it came from, and they look at everything in complete awe. We took that wonderful point of view and thought it would be nice to have that same wonderment by inventing a new world with new elements who defy our preconceived ideas and everything we know.
WONDERFUL. AND WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
We’re located in Lisbon, the beautiful capital of Portugal. It’s almost heaven here. Nice food, nice weather, nice people, awful politicians.
HA! WHAT’S IT LIKE BEING MARRIED AND A COLLABORATIVE TEAM?
It’s… bittersweet. It’s wonderful doing what you love and creating art with your life partner, but if things go sour when you’re working and living with someone 24/7, you can’t hide. You don’t get to go to your separate home to vent and relax. You need to know how to communicate with your partner to make a relationship like ours work.
SOUNDS LIKE IT. WHICH CAME FIRST: THE MARRIAGE OR THE PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION?
The marriage came first. We met 13 years ago drinking tequila shots at a mutual friend’s birthday party and some time after we started dating. After that, we started working together at an advertising agency and many years later, after the birth of our second child, we decided to create our own agency.
I IMAGINE THAT TO BE BOTH CREATIVELY EXCITING BUT ALSO COMPLICATED. DO YOU EVER HAVE CREATIVE DISAGREEMENTS?
Yes we do. A lot. Like twice a day. How do we resolve them? By leaving our kids once a week with the grandparents and heading out to a small pub near our house to have a drink or two and settle those disagreements. In short, with alcohol.
NOT A BAD WINDING DOWN PRACTICE. ARE YOU TWO CREATIVELY SATISFIED?
Yes we are… for about five minutes at a time. After that, we need to create something new.
FINALLY, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE TO YOUNG PEOPLE JUST STARTING OUT THEIR CAREER IN THE ART WORK?
This is going to sound like a cliche, but this is what 12 years of running our own company has taught us: never give up on your dream, but always remember that success is 90% hard work and 10% talent.
